Two teenagers, aged 15 and 13, are facing charges for hitting and killing a 63-year-old cyclist in New Mexico. They allegedly recorded the crime and shared the video on social media.
Scott Dwight Habermehl was killed on May 29, 2024, after being struck while cycling to work. The 63-year-old cyclist was reportedly the victim of two teenagers, aged 15 and 13, according to Albuquerque Police.
Authorities also mentioned that an 11-year-old boy was involved in the incident. The three teens allegedly filmed the crime, and the video was reported in early 2025.
According to the Albuquerque Police Department, one of the teens can be heard telling the other not to hit the cyclist too fast. “Just bump into him,” one of them allegedly said.

The sound of the car hitting Habermehl can also be heard in the recording.
Detectives arrested the 13-year-old boy and charged him with manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injury or death, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a minor. The 15-year-old is still on the run.
“They saw the blinking light from the bicycle, and from the audio of the recording, it was clear they planned to hit the cyclist,” police said.
Habermehl lived in Corrales, New Mexico, and was on his route when he was killed, according to his online obituary. He leaves behind a wife and children.
